The Artist-Antonia Velissariou-Moshonas
I was born in Greece and first arrived in South Africa at the tender age of 18. I have lived here ever since – I love this country and all the natu¬ral beauty it has to offer.
I initially started painting simply as a hobby and have had no formal training other than a few art classes. About 10 years ago I decided to dedicate all my time to my art and started painting full-time. I have since tried my hand at various styles and themes to explore beyond what I was used to doing.
I’m currently working on various Namaqualand scenes, portraying the unique beauty of this unspoilt region. I visited the Namaqualand district many years ago and it made an immense impression on me, leaving me truly inspired. I also paint poppy fields, Greek scenes, farm animals and figures.
I have been so privileged as to have my work exhibited at galleries in cities and towns all over South Africa, including Stellenbosch, Lange¬baan, Durbanville, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg (Greek community festival) and the KKNK in Oudtshoorn.
